Critical Creative Reflection- Music Video

Critical Creative Reflection- CCR https://docs.google.com/document/d/17bjLvJ2m-v24d-lA-f1zfdUer_FOCkkGHnYqPGuDe8I/edit?usp=sharing How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today I am looking back over my completed music video and reflecting over how everything went. In the creation of my "Viva la Vida" music video by the artist Coldplay, I wanted to go against the grain of traditional music videos by telling a story about someone's struggle with their mental health, a topic which is not often put to use in most music videos, especially involving a man and his mental health. The music video dives into this topic by telling a story of a boy who after goes looking for his friends who's not really real. And after endless searching eventually finds them again, which reinforces the idea that they never came to terms with their mental health and are clearly not doing a...

Production Blog- Final Touches

Image
Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog! Todays blog will be all about the last few tweaks I added to my music video. This last week was the week where I did all the finishing touches to the music video in the editing phase. I had to get cracking on all the remaining scenes that I didn't touch on last time, all the scenes that were less complicated to edit. Starting with the beach and open field scenes all I had to to was drag and drop them into the video. After that I just had to cut and line up each piece of footage and audio so that it fit nicely in the music video. After that I did the same for the remaining scenes. Those remaining scenes included: the car scene, the friends house scene, the intro scene, the drying off scene, and the sidewalk scenes. Once they were all put in and touched up with some cropping and tweaking the visual portion was mostly done for the music video. To give the visuals a break I started with the audio tweaks. First I had to find the right audio le...

Production Blog- Beginning Of The Tweaking

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Todays topic is about the first few days of the editing process. For the editing of this music video I had quite many options for the software choice for editing. But amongst all of them I decided on using Adobe Premiere Pro for the editing of this music video. This was mostly because I am already familiar with how this software works and functions as well as preferring how it is set up compared to other software's out there. To kickstart my editing process I began by downloading the song we choose for the music video. "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay was the song that was chosen for the video so once it downloaded I gave it a few listens. After listening to the song a few times I picked out the portions that I wanted to cut, shorten, and use for the video. I also made sure to chose the moments for when I wanted each scene to match with the music being played so that the video flows well chronologically. And finally I took all the f...

Production Blog- Final Days of Filming

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today is about the last few sessions of filming which brings us one step closer to the final polished music video. I spent the second part of my week filming the last remaining scenes. Those scenes were, the intro scene, the patio scene, the car scene, the friends house scene, the drying off scene, the sidewalk scene and the last two garage scenes. I filmed around two scenes per day this week to save time for editing when I had the chance. Starting with intro and patio scene, I needed peak daylight hours for these clips. So I waited until around 1pm before I started filming. I had my partner come over for the filming as they are needed in the first scene. Once they came I set up a tripod and filmed the scene in my room with good natural lighting from the window, and the prop camera I needed to include in the scene. Once that was done with I set up the scene for the patio scene and asked my partner to hold the camera while I was being fi...

Production Blog- First Successes

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Todays topic is about the first few sessions of filming for the music video. The Florida weather finally cleared up and was sunny for the first time in a while. I took this opportunity of good weather to start the filming process for a few scenes. The scenes I wanted to get finished up where the, forest  scene, the beach scene and the open field  scene. I planned to film these three scenes throughout the course of two days. For the beach scene I needed to catch the sunrise to make the scene more pleasing to the eyes. So I needed to be up at at the beach at around 7:00 in the morning to film. I spent the first day filming on the beach and got all the clips I needed for the scene. All I brought with me was a tripod and the costume I chose for the film session. I chose a red tank top and a blue pair of bathing trunks so that it would be safe to in the water since they are light clothes. I spent the second day filming the field sc...

Production Blog- Rain Rain Go Away

Image
Hello everyone, and welcome back to the blog! These past two weeks just haven't been the most fortunate weeks weather -wise. It has continued to pour rain almost everyday here in Florida, and when it hasn't rained it has been foggy like crazy. This weather not only doesn't match the set for the scenes we are filming but it also ruins the quality of the video that our cameras can capture. It makes the footage grainy and unfocused. Because of this I have decided to further push our filling schedule to this coming weekend as the weather is predicted to be sunny and clear. So in the meantime I am going to further work on the prep for this project as it’s all I can do at the moment. Last week I spent my time set scouting and tweaking the storyboard. This week I spent my time finishing up the costume choices for the video, picking the actors for the music video, and deciding on the gear that is going to be used to film. On Monday I sent my time going over the final wardrobe for ...
