Production Blog- Implementing The Sound Design

Image
Hello Everyone! Welcome back to todays blog! Todays topic is going to be focused mainly about selecting the sound effects for the Final Task and finalizing the editing. After I had selected the music that I would be using for the Final Task, all I had left to do was the sound effects and the final editing. So I got quickly started on gathering sounds to be used in this footage. The first thing I did was look for a good site to get royalty free audios from. A good source I usually use is the website, "Audio Jungle" its really reliable and they have good products. I really only needed them for sounds I couldn't recreate on my own, so all I downloaded was a eerie sound and a thriller sound. I quickly added them to my software before I would forget to. The rest of the audios I needed I was going to make myself. The list of sounds I need are as follows; a creaking floorboard, a slamming door, a turning door handle, a girl screaming, and a door squeaking. I started with the doo

Production Blog- Music Selection

Hello Everyone! Welcome back to todays blog! Todays topic is going to be focused mainly about selecting the choice of music for the Final Task. After I finished my title design all I had left to do was figure out all the sound dependent stuff before I could work on my final draft. So I started on trying to pick a initial soundtrack or theme for the footage. This was going to be a tough task. There are a lot of things I could do to pick a main theme. I could create a piece of music myself or I could find a piece of royalty free music instead. But neither are guarantied to be good. I choice to give both a shoot, but I personally have no skills in music creation so I reached out to a good friend to give me a hand. He agreed, so while he tried to string some music together I spent my time searching for any good quality royalty free music. After around a few hours of searching I couldn't find anything of value and was a little disappointed. I reached back out to my friend to check up

Production Blog- Last of The Draft Edits

Hello Everyone! Welcome back to todays blog! Todays topic is going to be focused mainly about the final touches and details of the main draft for this final task. This will not include the final music choice of the Final Task. I started this week off by finishing up any last minute learning of the after effects software that I would need to make the title design. After I made sure I understood everything I would need to know to make a good title I got straight to work. I opened up the software and put booted up all my footage from my draft. The first things I needed to do was plan out exactly where each title was going to go in the clip. I spent around two hours thinking and plotting points on where everything needed to be. A lot of the titles are scattered randomly around the shoots but a few are placed in a way that makes it look like they are a physical part of the world. I thought that looked cool and that adds some character to the clips. After that was done with I got started on

Production Blog- Further Edits

Hello everyone! Welcome back to this weeks blog! This blog is going to be focused on the continuation of my learning process for the after affects software. Last blog I left off with a week long session of trying to learn how to work After Effects. It did not go exactly as planned or as I hoped so I decided to put the title design on hold for now. In place of the title project I decided I would spend some time learning how to edit a fake emergency broadcast for the intro sequence. I figured that if I edited the broadcast in post it would be easier to control than to do it with practical effects. So I spent three to four days on sites like YouTube learning everything I could on how to make an authentic emergency broadcast. After feeling particularly confident in understanding the new software I went to work on the broadcast. The broadcast took around three solid days to be completed and polished for use in the final draft. I was really happy with the product. I used accurate text styl

Production Blog- Initial Edits

Hello everyone! Welcome back to this weeks blog! This blog is going to be focused around the first few days of editing on this Final Task. Once I had gathered all my footage from the days prior, I made sure to download the clips onto files. After that I quickly made sure everything was safely downloaded onto my computer before I had any chance to lose the downloads. Better safe than sorry, I knew that if I didn't do it immediately I would lose the clips. Once everything was safely on my computer I made sure to open the After Effects software and import the footage. This software is where I am going to be doing all of the title designing. After making sure the footage was imported, I made sure to do the same thing but with Premiere Pro. Before I could do any titles I needed to make sure I had the first Rough edits done. So the spent the next four days splicing and tweaking the footage to get a rough draft of the Final Task. This mostly included getting rid of bloopers and poor qual

Production Blog- Filming Retakes

Hello everybody! Welcome back to this weeks blog! This blog is going to be focused entirely on the process of redoing a huge chunk of the footage from last week. Last week after checking my footage I discovered two problems. One of these problems was that majority of the last scenes footage was blurry, unfocused and hazy. The lenses must not have been as clean as I assumed even after I cleaned them completely. The second problem was that I decided I didn't like the wardrobe I picked for one of the characters. I thought to myself that what the character of Alfred was wearing was not fitting the theme of the genre was much as I hoped. It was too formal of a wardrobe for a horror style film and it didn't sit right with me. So I went right back to the drawing board to figure out a plan to fix these two dilemmas. I spent the first few days trying to figure out a new costume for Alfred that fit the theme. After a decent amount of thinking I decided on something I thought was loads b

Production Blog- Just a Tad More Prep

Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog! This blog is again going to be focused entirely on the process of continuing the remaining filming. Starting with the deciding on the wardrobe of all the remaining characters for the last scenes. I spent my second few days of filming focusing on Sara the main character. For her lower body it was going to be grey socks and PJ pants. This was done as it is a very unrestrictive clothing and comfortable. This makes it safer as it wont hurt blood flow for a long day of filming. For her upper body she would be wearing a simple PJ shirt to fit with the aesthetic of the film. For the choice of clothes for the killer that took a tad longer than for any of the other characters. But decided on a old hockey mask for the face and a blue hoodie for the upper body. His lower body is going to consist of kakis and some hiking boots. This week was incredibly well off with the weather. I was able to get the remainder of my filming finished. The title shots and

Production Blog- First Days of Filming

Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog! This blog is going to be focused entirely on the process of getting the initial filming done. Starting with the planning of the first session. I spent my first few days of prep focusing on making a simple schedule. It came out as good as I expected, it wasn't anything special or groundbreaking but it would get the job done. The past two weeks had been pouring so I had to postpone any filming until the weather was clear. So while I waited for good weather I instead decided that I would start working on getting a working demo for the titles I'm going to be using in the Final Task. I started downloading Adobe After Effects and booted up a few YouTube tutorials. I then spent another couple of days familiarizing myself with the software. After about a week of waiting the weather cleared up and got myself ready to film. Plans to film were made and I got all my gear in one place. The first two pages of the storyboard were filmed first.
